Okay…and now for the real solid bring-down…Looks like a couple of the boxes I shipped to the gallery got the hang-up in Mexican Customs. Seems like them customs cats don’t dig my doodles no-wise!!! Derek Doodles: Banned in 36 Countries!! Hopefully they’ll make it thru in time for the gig but it don’t look like a sure thing, Chicken Wing! On the sunny side…most of my scribbles got past them finksters so I assure you the show’ll still be a Guaranteed Gasser!! Next month my fine friends down under at the Outre Galleries are holdin’ 3 Tiki group shows and they was kindly enough to invite me to throw some doodles their way. Since I been slingin’ paint mostly for my upcomin’ solo show in Mexico City, I wasn’t able to make with the painting bit but I did lay some full color sketchbook originals on ‘em!! OK…I’m switchin’ channels on ya’….Have you got yer mittens on the newest issue of Tiki Magazine yet? There’s a feature in the rag about MTV’s wild new animated show “Good Vibes”….the nutty talented artist and co-creater Brad Ableson created a crazy scribble for the article and you just gotta’ lay your marbles on it! It’s chocked full of all kinds of cats n’ chicks from the world of Tiki! And dig this….Brad even scratched out a caricature of yours truly!! It’s a solid gas, man!! Here’s a few shots to eyeball….

Last week I shipped out 8 boxes of paintings, prints and sketches to Mexico City for my show at the Vertigo Galeria….The show opens on May 17th….I’ll be there for the opening as well as a couple of workshops on the 18th and 19th where local art-lovers will lend an ear as I jaw on about my art and other mid-century mumbo-jumbo! They will also get to “Doodle Along with Derek” as we create art with a strictly retro riff!

Winter has split the kingdom and Spring pulled into the station ahead of schedule, man!! Hope you hipsters are diggin’ the warm up…Get out in the sun and thaw, but don’t let them bees buzz your honey!

Okay cats….My trip to Long Beach for Tiki Farm’s Liquid Lowbrow mug release gig is only a week away so allow me to lay the info on ya’!! The show happens on March 31st at the fabulous DiPiazza’s Lava Lounge in Long Beach, California….If you are anywhere near that zip, then you gotta’ make the trip!! Here’s a shot of the flyer I created to promote the event…

My new limited edition mug, “Space Gasser” will be released at the event and I’ll be there to scribble my Johnny Hancock on ‘em if ya’ want. I dig this crazy cup like mad, Dad!! This will probably be your only chance to get your mitts on this mug so…make it happen, Cap’n!! Here’s a peak at the original sculpts as well as the finished piece…



I’ll also have a brand spankin’ new signed and numbered “Space Gasser” digital print
at the show…Peep it up!

I finally have a date all nailed down for my upcomin’ Vertigo Gallery solo show in Mexico City…the opening is Thursday May 17 and on Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th I’ll still be in town for a couple of workshops where I’ll get to talk shop and make with the doodles for a select group of chicks n’ chucks! Crazy!! I have a whole heap of new paintings for the gig….I’ll lay all those on ya’ as we get a little closer. Until then here’s a sneak peek…”Fins n’ Grills”

On Friday March 2 them swingin’ cats at the Outre Gallery in Melbourne are throwin’ a mag launch wing-ding that is sure to be the thing!! The brand spanky new rag that they’s debuting is entitled Australian Modern and from where I is perched she looks to be a real gasser!! If you are anywhere in the Melbourne locale grab your guy or your gal and make the scene, jumpin’ bean! And dig this…I’ll have six new paintings available at the show!! Crazy, man!! You just gotta’ slap your marbles on these doodles…they are TOO MUCH!! Each one measures 12″ x 12″ and is hand-painted acrylic on wood….Here’s some shots for you art snobs to peep….ya’ dig?







Okay….for all you spooksters that dig the dead that ain’t quite buried, I got a new scribble to drop on ya’….Some nutty cats in Virginia at the Shadowbox Cinema asked me to work up somethin’ for their Zombie Prom and I told ‘em that nothin’ would unsnap my skull cap quicker!! A lil’ birdy chirped in my sound box to let me know that my sold-out 2010 Dragon Con T-shirt has been reprinted and is once again available at the Dragon Con store…I know lots of you cats were draggin’ when ya’ couldn’t get your greedy mitts on one so don’t dilly or dally, Pally….get ‘em whilst they’s still get-able!!
Dig this…I scribbled out cover art for the January issue of The Social Media Monthly magazine and I hear-tell she’s on the newsstands like…nowsville! It’s a crazy site that honors the long-gone greats from the world of illustration…So this time around they’re tippin’ their hats to the great Jim Flora and asked me to work up somethin’ with a similar vibe! Man, that’s like askin’ a bird to fly, a fish to swim or a hog to hop in slop! All you Chicks n’ Chucks that dig my scribbles know how I feel about the great Mr. Flora! Anyways, the post probably won’t hit the site until later this month but here’s a sneaky peek at what I came up with…
