I just very recently scribbled some art for the Ding Dong Devils new cd and they dug it so mad they went ape with it!! By far the grooviest gig of the event will be the Keep A Breast Art Show…A whole heap of great artists painted up plaster casts of some very loverly castees in order to raise some bread to fight breast cancer….The Art Show runs throughout the Oasis but the Artist Reception is set for 1:00 pm on Sat.the 21st at the Lahaina, Crown Plaza. Can’t even begin to wrap my coconut around the fact that 365 have already split the scene! Where do the time fly off to? Well, I’ve been busier than a one-armed paper-hanger AND a one-legged tapdancer all year so I couldn’t find the necessary ticks n’ tocks to land my own booth at the show like last time….But don’t let that drag your wagon, man! Thankfully them way-out cats at Poster Pop are affordin’ me a spot to squat so’s I can make with the signin’ bit as well as meet and greet all you little kooks n’ kittens!

You’ll find me at the Poster Pop booth (#4930) on Friday and Saturday from 2 ’til 5…They’ll be rollin’ out my super-swell new limited edition serigraph entitled “Late for the Luau” Them cats printed this one at a nice hefty mombo-size! Poster Pop is also featurin’ a brand-spankin’ new limited edition Derek sticker. At lastly but never leastly…The Tales of the Cocktail event in New Orleans is happenin’ the very same week as the ComicCon ( ain’t it always the way?) otherwise I would have LOVED to make the trip down south and tilt back a few with my fellow lovers of libations…If you plan on makin’ that gig be sure and snag the limited edition serigraph I created for the show as well as a T-shirt or cocktail shaker….Live it up, pup!

Them swell cats at Poster Pop asked me to work up some way-out new serigraph art for ‘em and I was more than ticked to oblige! I call it “Late for the Luau” ( Peep a shot of it below. And for an even better look hop over to my Serigraph Page ) Looks like she’s gonna’ be on the large size….22.5″ x 35″ to be exact. The plan is to debut this beauty at this year’s San Diego ComicCon….so if yer plannin’ on droppin in on the Con, take the shoe leather express on over to the Poster Pop booth and snag one for your own fine self!

Them koo koo cats at Korero Books in the UK are at it again! They’re puttin’ together a book of collected works entitled “Skull Face”. They asked me to contribute so I worked up the sketch below…I’ll post the final art once she’s all done and done, dig?

In other Derek news…I landed a gig to scratch out some cd cover art for the way-out California combo the Ding Dong Devils! ( you can grab a sneak peek at my pencil sketch below) By my next post I’ll have fresh-baked final art to lay on ya’….

Now you just gotta’ give a look-see to what makes any cat or kitten a true “Derek Fan”…This hipster by the name of Stephane Goulet sent me the snap seen below….Stephane is an art director at the fabulous DrinkBox Studios. Since art usage rights were not legally obtained I’m havin’ my lawyer either repossess his forearm or have the ink tattooed over with a picture of Papa Smurf!

The first event of the tiki season is the Hukilau, held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from June 10th thru the 13th. Unfortunately, I got so much cookin’, stewin’ and brewin’ I ain’t gonna’ be droppin’ in on the gig. I will, however have a painting in the Hukilau Art Show ( Peep it below ) Lots of great artists takin’ part, so if ya’ can make it out be sure and lay a few eyes on it!

I’ll be makin’ the trip out West for the 10th Anniversary Tiki Oasis celebration….If you haven’t already made with the reservation bit, you better light a candle under your keester, meester! The event will be held in San Diego from August 19th thru the 22nd. The Keep A Breast Foundation was kind enough to ask me if I’d like to paint up a plaster “boober” cast for their charity auction to be held at this year’s Oasis…
The model for the cast is the loverly and talented Audrey Moorehead of the Luxuria radio show “Switched On Audrey”….So all you fat-cats n’ big-wigs gotta’ make the scene and lay down some heavy cabbage so’s we can save them ta-tas! ( see Audrey boober snaps below…Ooh La-La! Hubba Hubba! Yowzer! )

In other Tiki Oasis news….looks like them way-out cats of Poster Pop will be vendin’ at the show…. I’ll be coppin’ a squat at their booth for a spell to do some meetin’ n’ greetin’! They’ve also asked me to design a limited edition serigraph to be sold at the show…You can eyeball the pencil sketch I scribbled out below….

Okay hipsters….dig the big doins afoot!! A huge heap of Barnes n’ Noble stores all across the country are gonna’ be carryin’ a line of “Derek Party Puzzle Paks”! There are 3 separate sets in Series #1,(Tiki Freak Edition)…Each set includes a huge 500 piece jigsaw puzzle of my tiki art as well as collectible barware featurin’ designs by yours ever so truly! All 3 oughta’ be hittin’ the B n’ N shelves in early June, so keep your peepers peeled and “Collect ‘em all, ya’ll” (I’ve added some shots of the final box art of all 3 sets below)

I painted up a nice hefty sized piece for the fast-approachin’ “False Idols” show to be held at the Bold Hype Gallery in Orlando. Opening night is Saturday April 17th… My contribution to the show is entitled “Dig That Tiki Beat” ( I added a shot of it below as well as some close-ups for ya’ to roll your grapes over ) Contact them Bold Hype cats if ya’ just can’t go on livin’ without it! The show looks like she’s gonna’ be a beaut so if you live nearby, give it the eye!

Another show comin’ up all quick-like is with my good friends down under at the Outre Gallery! Them cats were super-swell enough to invite me to send in a few paintings for the upcomin’ Art Melbourne exhibition….The show runs from April 22-25…..If you got plans to fall by, take the shoe leather express on over to booth D-12 and visit them Outre cats…..Dig on the pieces that I sent in for the show below! I slapped on a few close-up shots of these as well so’s you can really gawk ‘em good! If any of these really flip your switches, contact Outre directly and say, “Gimme, Gimme!”

If you got a minute to spare, I’d love to lay some news on ya’…..Firstly, I just recently painted up a toilet seat for an upcomin’ show in Chicago entitled “Art To Poop On”(see the flyer below, Daddy-O)…. The show is bein’ put on by the fabulously talented Mitch O’ Connell, so you know it’s gonna’ be a hoot AND a holler!! The show will open on Friday March 26th at The Tattoo Factory Gallery. Their address is 4443 N. Broadway….Throw your mudmashers into hi-gear and beat it on over so you can peep all them crazy poopers! Mitch has been kind enough to send out some snaps of some of the seats he’s received and man oh man!! They are all crap-tastic!! You can see a shot of my pot below….hope it really “moves” ya’……….

Just recently finished up the new art for this year’s Tiki Oasis….It’s the 10th Anniversary so this is definitely gonna’ be one for the record books, man! As I posted in my last update my Miami solo show got moved to February, so….she’s comin’ up awful quik-like! The opening will be on Feb. 13th at the fabulous Harold Golen Gallery. I just shipped out the 9 new paintings that I’ll have in the show. I’m also sendin’ Harold two of my amazing 3-D  Acryl-O-Graphs! The show is sure to be a gas, so…wrap your mittens around your Valentine kittens and make the trip! I’ll be there for opening night so be sure and lay a “howdy” on me! Dig this!…All recent-like I was asked to make with the art bit for the Tales of the Cocktail event in New Orleans….now if that ain’t right up my alley, I don’t know what-all!! On the 21st of last month they invited me to jetset into town and attend the kickoff party and unveil the print art for the event. Wow! What a blast!
